Dear Kwame,
You might not remember us. You and your dear mother were our friends (my son Andrew and me) when we lived in Adams Morgan at 1851 Columbia Road. The 4 of us spent lots of time together in the 1990s . I even have pictures of you and Andrew.
Sadly, we lost touch when we moved to upper Connecticut Avenue and life intervened. I tried to call over the years but the number I had was disconnected and l gave up looking. I am so sorry that I did because my friendship with Joanne meant a lot to me and I regret that our friendship waned.
The other day, I decided to google your name with hers and learned that she had passed away. She and I shared many political discussions (I wish I could speak with her now!) and, as single parents, discussions about you and Andrew. I will always remember her as a fierce advocate for you, especially at that time, making sure that you got to a good elementary school, a difficult task in DC. I am thrilled to know that she was able to see what a success you have become.
I do have a photo of you and Andrew so if you would like me to send it to you, please let me know.
You are in my thoughts.
