Obituary of Philip Pender
Phillip Eugene Pender (78) was born in Franklin County, North Carolina on December 17, 1944 to the late Elsie Pender and reared with the help of his grandmother, the late Addie Montague Pender of Franklinton, North Carolina. He spent the majority of his lifetime living in Temple Hills, Maryland.
Phillip was educated in the Franklin County Public School System of North Carolina. As a teenager, he and his mother moved to Temple Hills, Maryland where he graduated from high school and entered college to further his education. Phillip served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. After his tour of duty, Phillip was gainfully employed for many years by Amtrak until his retirement.
Phillip was an outgoing person. He loved having a good time and showing his family and friends a good time as well. He had a passion for cooking and gardening. Every year in May, Phillip would hold a neighborhood BBQ in memory of his mother’s birthday and invite the whole block, his co-workers at Amtrak, and family from all over the US. He looked forward to hosting this event every year until his health declined. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him dearly, as he quietly departed this earthly life on July 15, 2023 at Fort Washington Health & Rehabilitation, Fort Washington, Maryland.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: a god-sister and cousin, Gloria Patricia Pender (Pat) of Youngsville, NC; loving cousins, Jimmie Winston (Martha) of Silver Spring, MD, Mary B. Tharrington (Ulysses) of Creedmoor, NC, Johnny B. Pender (Dorothy) of Franklinton, NC; his buddies, Harry, Bryon, Ann, Elyce, Joyce, Kenneth and Shelia; and a host of loving cousins and friends of Maryland, North Carolina, and New York.
