My brother Allen S. Barbour, Sr was a true man of GOD! He was committed to the cause of Christ Jesus in life, deed, and word. My memories of him will be cherished by a life well-lived. He was devoted to his late wife Lucretia and raising his children in the Lord. When we would travel to various church conventions like Lott Carey, Allen was well-received as chairman of the Deacon Board from Second Baptist Church, Clifton, VA. I remember after returning from a Lott Carey convention we stopped at a fast-food restaurant, we headed to the counter to make our order the restaurant personnel asked for our order, well she looked at Allen and asked are you going to order for your father looking at me? Well, he laughed and couldn’t keep it in. Wow, I knew I looked young, but I got you this time brother!! We chuckled and tried to keep our dignity! Many years later Allen would bring that up at times and we would live that all over again, laughing, cracking up, and being silly! I truly got to say that my brother did maintain his youthful looks as he got older. God is good!
Allen would call early in the morning like 4 AM to 6 AM, simply to ask, “How are you doing?” We would talk for about ten to twenty minutes going over scripture. Allen, I miss hearing those calls and bringing you a word for today! Rest in peace, my brother! Until that day we will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air!!
