Obituary of Corraine Anita Jones

Please share a memory of Corraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Corraine Anita Jones was born in Alexandria, Virginia on August 23, 1957 to Vernon and Eloise Lee.  Corraine grew up in the Falls Church (VA) area, graduating from Falls Church High School in 1976.

As a girl (and into adulthood), Corraine was known to be meticulously tidy. While her siblings played with their dolls, Corraine’s doll babies could be seen sitting neatly in formation, untouched…some even unpackaged.  Her “go-getter” spirit led her to excel at anything she chose to do, be it playing recreational softball, playing on an all-female football team, serving a stint as a police officer, or—one of her most proud personal accomplishments—earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Rider University in 2014.

Nearly four decades ago, Corraine was introduced to Gregory Jones, Sr.—an enlisted member of the U.S. Air Force and now retired Chief Master Sergeant –by her mother, Eloise. Her mother’s matchmaking intuition was right on target, as Greg and Corraine were married on March 29, 1984.  On August 9, 1987, that union brought forth Gregory Dwayne Jones, Jr. Born a “preemie,” he undoubtedly inherited his mother’s fighting spirit to overcome significant challenges and grow healthy and vibrant.

Corraine served as a civilian in the U.S. Air Force for more than three decades. The success of her and her husband’s careers led her to travels or residency in multiple states including New Jersey, California, Louisiana, Texas, and Maryland—just to name a few.  Throughout her entire life and wherever her travels took her, Corraine always kept a place in her heart for the Lord. Corraine was baptized in her youth at Merrifield First Baptist Church in Falls Church, VA, was later a member of Christ Baptist Church in Burlington, NJ, and is a current member of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA.

“Corraine, your life personified the beauty, power, and spunk that is the very essence of the spirit of God.  May your strength and grace comfort all who will miss you, until we meet again.”

Corraine is survived by Gregory D. Jones, Sr. (husband), Gregory D. Jones, Jr. (son), Lynette Hunt (stepdaughter), Eloise Lee (mother), five siblings:  Vernon L. Lee, Sheri L. Johnson, Christopher A. Lee, Rosemary A. Beach, and Orrin J. Lee.  Nieces/Nephews:  Machelle N. Johnson, Ashton Robinson, Sherman H. Beach III, Christopher A. Lee Jr., Michael J. Lee, siblings-in-law: Theresa Mauldin, Valerie Jones, Stephanie Jones, and William Jones Jr.  Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews through her husband, Gregory Jones Sr.  Predeceased by Vernon B. Lee (father), William Jones Sr. (father-in-law), Katherine Jones (mother-in-law), and Richard Jones (brother-in-law).
