Obituary of Geraldine Coulson

OBITUARY

Geraldine Yvonne Coulson, loving referred to as Geral, 78, died Friday, March 20, 2020, at 4:20 a.m. Renee, her loving daughter was by her side at Providence Hospital (Capital Care). She was later joined by Crystal, Angela, Ruth, Millennium, and Samaria. We said our final goodbyes. Geral was born March 10, 1942, in Washington, DC to the late Pharoah Manley, Sr. and Beatrice Manley.  She was the oldest child of five children.  She was educated in the DC Public School System.

In 1959, Geral fell in love with the late Clifford F. Coulson, who at the time was serving in the Air Force. They joined together in Holy Matrimony on April 9, 1960. Their union was blessed with three beautiful daughters, Crystal A. Coulson-Taylor, Renee Y. Wilson, and Angela Y. Coulson.

Geral was employed in the United States Billing Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for over 20 years. She retired April 14, 1989. After her retirement, Geral opened up a Daycare Center at her home. She cared for six children who loved her as though she was their grandmother five days a week. This enabled her to also provide care for her grandchildren until they entered school. She discontinued her daycare after her grandchildren were all in school.

Geral confessed her faith in the Christ and was baptized by Rev. Jackson and became a member of Bethesda Baptist Church on March 31, 1964.

She later joined Maple Springs Baptist Church in 1985 under the late Rev. Chester A. McDonald, Sr. On March 2, 2003, she joined Gospel Bible Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Overseer Rev. Chester A. McDonald, Jr. where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Geral hobbies were watching television, shopping and going on road trips. Wheel of Fortune, Law and Order SVU, Love After Lock-Up, and The Masked Singer. Her favorite movies were Crime, War, and Westerns. She was also looking for a good movie to watch. They had to be action packed, she was definitely a movie critic.

Shopping for the right clothes was a must. Her mother taught her years ago how to select the right outfits for the occasion. Her suitcase was always packed, even before the trip was even planned. She prepared in anticipation of future trips; she was always ready for a good trip.

Geral loved to spend time with her family, at the family gatherings, she was known for baking her delicious Peach Cobbler, Candied Yams, and Bread Pudding with her special twist.

She was the “Family Rock”. If you ever needed any information, had to turn money in for a family function, or just needed a phone number, she was the “Contact Person”. Her home was always open to friends and family. It was such a warm place to be.

Geral was the matriarch of her family, she was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She provided for her family throughout her illness. She gave it her all.

Geraldine leaves to cherish her loving memory, her three daughters, Crystal A. Coulson-Taylor (Carl), Renee Y. Wilson (Albert), and Angela Y. Coulson. Five grandchildren, Xavier C. Wright (India), JuDonne E. Taylor, Octavius W. Wilson, Millennium I. Coulson, and Samaria A. Coulson; one great-grandchild SaiBree S. Taylor-Lee. Two sisters Ruth J. Davis-Rollins and Deborah E. Edwards Boston (Michael). Two bothers one whom preceded her in death Pharoah L. Manley (Alberta) and Morris E. Manley (Geneva). One Godson Brian D. Davis, Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Three devoted caretakers Marie Kengne Signe, Olive Signe and Monique.

Her Journey’s Just Begun

Don’t think of her gone away

her journey’s just begun

life holds so many facets

this earth is only one.

Just think of her as resting

from the sorrows and the tears

in a place of warmth and comfort

where there are no days and years.

Think how she must be wishing

that we could know today

how nothing but our sadness

can really pass away.

And think of her as living

in the hearts of those she touched…

for nothing loved is ever lost

and she was loved so much.
