Please share a memory of Lucy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ms. Lucy Ellen Goodwine affectionately known as “Nancy”, daughter of the late Clement Isaac Goodwine Sr. and Gwendolyn Eleanor Goodwine was born on November 29, 1950 in Washington D.C. She attended McKinley Tech High School in Washington D.C. and later received her High School diploma from Ballou Stay through the National External Diploma program in 2003. She was united in holy matrimony to Johnnie Silver in 1970. This union was blessed with three children Roderick, Rodney, and Robin. Nancy later met Ray McNeil and from that union she was blessed with another daughter Rhonda. While attending her first “For Women Only” retreat in 1992, Nancy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. This was the pivotal change in her life. In her words her testimony is that she was delivered from “crack cocaine, alcohol, and worldly men, and now I live my life to please my Daddy.” Nancy was a committed, faithful, and loyal member of the Southern Baptist Church Praise and Worship Center where she served in several ministries to include: intercessory prayer, alter workers, nurses, and the Daughters of the Covenant Promise. Nancy loved all of her siblings but enjoyed a unique relationship with her sisters and always enjoyed taking special care of her mother. Nancy loved her pastors, her church, and her church family dearly. She always gave from her heart and not her means. She touched the lives of her neighbors, served as a mentor to thosein her community, and to those who shared her past struggles. Nancy had a special anointing for caring for the elderly and those who required home care. Romans 10:17 declares “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”, Nancy lived this scripture. Every Sunday she purchased a copy of the sermon so she could reflect on it daily, or like Maryponder some things in her heart. She was a prayer warrior not only for her own family but for everyone she came into contact with. Nancy’s Christian life was beautiful and her influence extended beyond her home church and will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Nancy quietly departed this life on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at United Medical Center in Washington D.C. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her four children Roderick (Donneta), Rodney (Angie), Robin (Ron), and Rhonda; her eleven grand children Shamara, Raena, Marvin, Raevan, Rian, Rodney Jr., Monique, Qwasheba, Tyler, Roderick Jr., and Skylah; her four great grandchildren Ra’Maya, Zurii, Lauren, and Ma’Joy; her mother Gwendolyn E. Arthur, and eight brothers and sisters Clarence (Ruth), Eleanor (Charles), Gwendolyn, Clement (Ethel), James (Victoria), Jeanette (Jerome), Stephen (Shirlian), and Kenneth (Lisa). She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, church family, friends and prayer partners Verlene Bailey, and Eddie Miles.
