Obituary of DONNELL G MOORE
Donnell Gregory Moore departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2025. He was the youngest son born to the late James and Evelyn Moore.
Affectionally known as “Donnie” or “Boo”, Donnie was born in Washington, D.C. on September 14, 1966. He was raised in Washington, D.C, attended public schools, and graduated from Coolidge High School in 1987. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
Donnie worked at The World Bank and Trinity Washington University, at five-year intervals, before joining MedStar Washington Hospital Center in 2000, where he remained an employee for 24 years.
Donnie loved his kids, family, friends, Bryant Street, music and sports. He was very proud of his first-born Chelnie and all her scholarly achievements. Now as an angel, he will continue to smile as she steps through her life goals. He was beyond excited when Lil Donnell was born. A boy to carry on the Moore namesake. Lil Donnell has big shoes to fill and his angel will help guide him at Temple University. Donnie lived in the family home with two of his three sisters, but all three of them spoiled him in their own way. Even though they also tested his nerves. He sarcastically called them the “good sisters” to remain respectful, but to convey they need to back-off. Then there were his two nieces that were more like sisters because of their closeness in age—Stephanie and LaChelle. As his sisters, they spoiled him, so he wanted for nothing.
Donnie didn’t leave Bryant Street often, except for work, but when he did it was all about the fashion. He was a “low-key” shopaholic. From head to toe—glasses to shoes, he would be dressed in designer items. Bryant Street is and will always be home for the entire Moore family. Donnie was a part of all the Bryant Street families that include: The Audry’s, Benjamin’s, Farmer’s, Fulton’s, Jeter’s, Jacksons’, Morris’, Porter’s, Wilkes’ and Wilson’s. Then there were his buddies Anthony, Gary, Kareem, Marcus, Reggie and Ricky, who hold all his secrets.
Rare Essence was his favorite Go-Go band, and he made sure the entire neighborhood knew it. He played Go-Go music from the basement using his surround sound speakers which could be heard walking down the street. Later, he could be seen enjoying his Go-Go music on his Beats headphones, eyes-closed, head bopping. Donnie’s favorite sports teams included the LA Rams (football), Houston Rockets (basketball) and Toronto BlueJays (baseball). He also enjoyed boxing and was a huge fan of Muhammad Ali. He was a loyal and dedicated fan who could site each players strengths and weaknesses. This made him very popular during sport conversations, that usually ended in debates.
Donnie was also a barbeque master. He created his own “special” BBQ sauce. He would spend hours outback on the grill, wearing his grill master apron, under his own personal tent with his Go-Go music.
Donnie had clinical guardian angels led by the Kaiser Permanente team Dr. Gayaso, Dr. Brandt and their assistants Mabel and Dervin. Friends David and Marvin also assisted daily with his healthcare.
Donnie was deeply loved and will be missed and remembered for all the things he added to each of our lives.
He leaves behind his daughter Chelnie (mother Laura Bailey) and his son Lil Donnell (mother Deon Coates); two brothers proceeded in death, Wendell and James; three sisters, Thomasina, Carolyn and Mildred; three nieces, LaChelle (Ronald), Stephanie and LaTrice; five great nieces, Sheena, LaChe, Breonna, Vichan and Sekoi; three great nephews, Vernon Jr., Ronald, Jr. and Blake, and a host of extended family and friends.
